We have received a few queries from customers regarding our feed formulation and pellet size.

Nature’s Nest would like to reiterate that there has been no change to our feed formula. Legally, according to the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Seeds and Remedies Act 36 of 1947 we are not allowed to change our formulation without notification and a different formula would require a brand-new product registration.

What have we changed?

We did have a concern over our pellet texture and unnecessary feed wastage. Pellet texture directly effects pellet quality and since we strive to provide our clients with the best possible natural product, we knew that a change had to be made. In the end the solution was simple. Using a smaller die hole size allowed us to increase the pressure during our pellet making process. The result was a smaller pellet of higher quality without the addition of unnatural binding agents.

Nature’s Nest did conduct a trial with the smaller sized pellets before it was launched, and the results were that:

  • Smaller birds found it easier to eat,
  • the texture of the feed was better,
  • there was a reduction in the crumbling of the pellet, and
  • a decrease in feed wastage in both smaller and larger birds.

During our trials we did notice that some birds were sensitive to a change in their feed, this was expected. However, within 1-2 days all the birds had adapted to the smaller pellet size. All that we have changed is the size of our pellet. To make a comparison to a human related snack, Bakers released snack pack versions of their popular biscuits. Same biscuits, just a smaller more manageable size. Our pellet works on the same principle – same pellet, just a smaller version of it.

At the end of the day – we as a company are very proud of the products we produce, and we will constantly try to improve our products to ensure our customers receive the best possible quality. We base our improvements on over 40 years of bird breeding and avian veterinary experience coupled with scientific research.

The health of your feathered companion is important to us. Good nutrition is therefore vital, and we continue to promise to deliver a trusted product of the highest standard and quality, for the health and enjoyment of your bird.
