It started in the backseat of a mobile vet clinic, on weekend mornings feeding breeding birds. In the stillness of those moments—while the rest of the world was sleeping—I found wonder, purpose, and a quiet kind of joy.
I grew up in the world of birds.
My dad, Dr. Deon de Beer, is an avian vet—one of the best in South Africa, and I’d argue, the world. From the time my brother and I could walk, we were tagging along on his rounds—travelling to bird sanctuaries, holding parrots gently in our hands, and absorbing the kind of wisdom that isn’t taught in textbooks. It’s passed down. It’s lived.
Even as life took me into the world of finance, through auditing firms in Cape Town, the BVI, and Scotland, the sound of birdsong, the scent of aviaries, the quiet discipline of care… it never really left me.
When I returned to South Africa, something called me back—not just to the birds, but to the way we cared for them. To that deep-rooted knowledge and integrity my dad carried with him, and passed on to us.
And that’s how Nature’s Nest came to life. Not as a product line, but as a family mission: to create vet-approved bird food and avian nutrition blends that put science first and birds at the centre.
Together with my dad, and my brother—now also an avian vet with a deep passion for bird health and nutrition—we’ve built something that honours where we come from.
